We get you closer to motorsport … get started
Get in the hot seat and be the action. Whether you have a suitable car or not, your first step would be to join a local motor club. Then you can decide how you would like to get involved and get the help and advice you need.
By getting involved you can determine which sporting discipline is for you or whether your involvement would be for marshalling and organizing events or whether your involvement would be as a member of a support team.
Choose your preferred sport and get your competition licence.
And get involved. The camaraderie, advice and support of the Lancashire and Cheshire Car Club is a good start to success.
We all have to start somewhere and with just a few minor adjustments to a road car there will be a great motorsport discipline in which you can start to compete.
Car Racing
Circuit racing enjoys the highest profile, thanks largely to the popularity of F1, and with more than 200 race meetings at the many circuits throughout the British Isles, there are countless opportunities to get to grips with racing cars.
Hill Climbs & Sprints
Speed events are increasingly popular forms of motor sport. Hill climbs and Sprints are run against the clock over a measured distance at venues ranging from disused airfields to the driveways of picturesque private estates. Drivers compete singly and are usually entered into classes according to vehicle configuration and/or size.
Vehicles may be productions saloons or sport cars, whether standard or modified; specials or single seater racing cars. Some speed events allow two competitors to share the same car (and therefore the vehicle costs).
The ability to take a technical approach to driving the course can be the key to success. For some competitors, this discipline may encourage them to try the very different experience of racing.
Rallying
Rallying is equally diverse as racing. While the stars of tomorrow are perfecting their spectacular driving skills in the premier MSA British Rally Championship, simple road rallies are one of the cheapest forms of motor sports available. All you need is a road legal car plus, of course, a desire to have some fun on four wheels. This can be a good team sport with drivers and their regular co-drivers enjoying a fruitful partnership. Different aspects of rallying test the skills of the driver and/or the skills of the navigating co-driver.
Autotests
Autotests, one of the cheapest and most enjoyable forms of motor sport, puts the emphasis on precision driving rather than flat out speed, employing spin turns, reverse flicks and handbrake turns to negotiate the set route in the shortest possible time. These events can take place on smooth tarmac, loose hard surfaces or on level grassland. Vehicles are entered in classes according to type, size and position of the engine. Beginner and Novice drivers can have as much enjoyment as more experienced competitors.
Karting
Traditionally the starting point for racing drivers, karting can give competitors their first experience of wheel-to-wheel action. As karts can be significantly cheaper than cars, karting offers huge opportunities for aspiring racers at a fraction of the cost.
We have kart racing members but currently the club is not directly involved in organizing karting events.
Trials
Trials are the oldest form of motor sport that gave rise to hill climbs, sprints, rallies and autotests. The competitive element in a trial is the ability to climb gradients of varying difficulty. The vehicle has a driver and front seat passenger often known as a ‘bouncer’.
Production Car Trials classify vehicles according to type or configuration, size and position of the engine.
Sporting Trials cars are small open seat cars specially built for the sport and have the benefit of individual hand brakes.
